School L.E.A.P Parent Resource Section

Landsdale Primary School has developed a L.E.A.P Parent Resource Centre which is located in the school's Information Centre. This centre contains a wide range of materials relating to the development and parenting of children. The posters, books, pamphlets, and packs cover all kinds of topics from asthma, bed wetting, bullying, child development, nutrition and physical activity through to recipes for allergy sufferers and take home reading and maths activities. The centre allows parents to sit and read or peruse the information as well as borrow through the schools library system for use at home. Items for borrowing include: School Literacy Packs, School Maths Packs, Narrative Cards and Parent Resource Books.

School Literacy Pack
The Literacy Packs contain 1 recommended age appropriate picture book and an activity card that provides questioning cues for parents for before, during and after reading
. The cards also provides ideas on what to look for when selecting a great picture book age group. Currently there are Literacy Packs for children aged 2yrs - 7yrs, and there are also additional question cards available.

     Narrative Cards
These cards have been developed as a guide to assist parents to develop oral narrative retelling skills with their children. There are three stages of narrative retelling from Kindergarten to Year 2. The cards would traditionally be used after a story has been read. There is a direct link between childrens' abilities to retell stories orally and their ability to write stories later on.

School Maths Literacy Pack
The Maths Packs contain specific picture books that have a mathematical theme or contain maths concepts that can be discussed as part of the reading process. Each pack has a reading book and guided activity card.

Parent Resource Books
The school has purchased a variety of parenting, health and well being, and educational resource books that can be borrowed for home reading. Authors include Julie Eady, Mem Fox, Paul Jennings, Steve Biddulph, Sue Dengate, Fiona Stanley, Michael Grose and Andrew Fuller.
