From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Swimming Lesson Changes

We have received some last minute changes to our Year 5 and 6 In-Term Swimming lessons due to start next Monday 22nd November.

The national shortage of swimming instructors has unfortunately affected our local swimming program.

The Department of Education’s Swimming and Water Safety Branch has informed us that the number of instructors needed to deliver our program as planned was unable to be sourced.

To maintain proper levels of supervision and ensure that all of our students can attend lessons, there has been a need to modify our program from its original format.

This situation will only affect our Year 5 and Year 6 classes. The parents of students in these year groups have been informed of the changes and new arrangements.

We have worked with the Department of Education’s Swimming and Water Safety Branch to find a solution to ensure that all of our students can attend lessons this year while maintaining the highest levels of safety.

Book Fair

Thank you to our P&C for this wonderful event. It was very encouraging to see so many students and families in the Library purchasing books to read. Engaging children in reading experiences presents infinite opportunities for developing language and literacy skills. Children who start reading from an early age are observed to have good language skills, and they grasp the new learning much easier.

A special thank you to Mrs Murray our Library Officer for organising the library space. Thank you also to our P&C representatives Mrs Mel Fuller and Mrs Sonya March for all of their hard work in not only fundraising for the library but also for providing the opportunity to encourage more students to read.

Colour Explosion

What a wonderful day we had for our Colour Explosion. It was obvious that all students had a great time getting soaked by the parents and having the very bright fluro colours sprayed onto them. The event was very well organised and a big thank you to Mrs Herridge and the P&C helpers for their work and encouragement of the students on the day.

Whole School Communication Survey

This was advertised in our last newsletter. For those that missed it the school is reviewing its communication strategy and to do this we would like to receive feedback from our community on information that is sent out and received across the school through a number of mediums. Consultation has occurred through the school administration, P&C and Parent Link Program to develop a survey which will provide me with more up to date trends, habits and thoughts from our parent community. This will in turn allow us, as a school, improve our processes for communication.

A survey link was sent out to all families (one per family) via email. Please complete the survey by Monday 22nd November 2021.

Kind regards,
Josh Jashari

Library News

Thank you to every student, parent, grandparent and staff member who supported our Scholastic Book Fair. It was yet another outstanding success!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Ms Mel Fuller and Mrs Sonya March for their brilliant organisation and hard work before, during and after the Book Fair. This is a week that our students really look forward to every year and it couldn’t happen without the passion and dedication of Ms Fuller, Mrs March and their hardworking team of parent volunteers.

During Book Fair:

$11,580 was taken in the sale of books, stationery and novelty items.

$888 was taken in commission from the Book Fair in the form of books for the Library.
(These books have already been borrowed by our students.)

$3,474 worth of Scholastic Rewards is now available for the Library to spend over the next 12 months.

What a fantastic result! Thank you for bringing the joy of reading to our students through your generous support.

At last week’s assembly, Mr Greg Brennan presented a selection of lovely Australiana-themed books to our Library, on behalf of the Ballajura Lions Club. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Ballajura Lions Club for their ongoing support of our Library through the Lions OZ-Read Project. The donated books are currently on display in our staffroom and will soon be available for our students to borrow and enjoy.

Art News

This term the Art room has been busy preparing for artist Paul Deej, who will be visiting in week 6. Paul is a mural artist who will be here to share his expertise and help us draw and design a mural. Students from year 1 to 6 have been exploring the various birds we have in the area as part of our inspiration. We are very excited to be creating such a long painting and will share our journey in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Noah A from LA 6 for achieving 100 laps in the Runners Club?

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Holly P (LA 31). Holly competed in the State u11 and u13 Epee Fencing competition on Sunday.

Holly is new to fencing, having just started. However, she has a lot of natural talent which is evidenced by her results, winning silver in u11’s and silver again in u13’s! Her final u13’s match was very close, losing 10-9, but earning a silver medal. Fantastic achievement Holly!

Roadwise Committee

Term 4 - we still have heaps of open spots on the roster. Please can Yr 1-4 parents jump online and put your names down. There are only LESS than 30 spots to fill. This time we have a much wider year group and still its proving hard to find volunteers.

We are still observing parents letting their kids out of the cars from the middle of the road. This is both dangerous and causes unnecessary delays and frustration to other parents who are trying to do the right thing. Please refrain from this practice and use the designated Kiss n Drive or parking spots, before letting your kids out of the car.

Please remember in the afternoons children are only allowed to enter cars number 1, 2 and 3 in the Kiss n Drive bays. Car number 4 must drive right to the front of Kiss n Drive.

Drive safely everyone and don't forget to use your INDICATORS to show your intentions when exiting, entering or turning, all around the school.
