From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Week 10 Term 4

I can hardly believe that I am writing our final newsletter for the year. This year has been and gone so quickly and it only seemed like yesterday that we started the year with a one-week lockdown. I am so grateful, and I am sure you are as well, we had a better year this year than we did last year with regards to COVID disruptions and restrictions. I would like to thank all staff (Teachers, Education Assistants, Office Staff, Gardeners and Cleaners) for their role in supporting the education of our students. We all have a very important role to play and I find it very gratifying to lead such a team of very dedicated staff. Thank you also to our parents, guardians and carers for your support through-out the year. This support cannot be underestimated as it sets the tone, values and expectation that students can model in their learning. Whether it’s being actively involved in a meeting with the teacher about your child, fundraising or general advocacy for the school it is all appreciated.

As this year closes and we move into a new year with some unknown outcomes due to the lifting of our boarders in early February, I would like to wish you are a wonderful holiday break and enjoy the time with your family and friends.

School Board

A huge thank you to our School Board who were predominantly new to the role at the beginning of this year. Part of their role was to meet after hours and discuss a number of important issues involving governance in relation to the finance expenditure, analysis of survey data and NAPLAN data which all helped to inform our strategic planning. Our school board were actively involved in a very successful Whole School Review conducted by the Department at the beginning of this year.

A very special thank you to our Board Chair Mrs Nadine Webber.

P&C

Thank you to the hard working group of parents in our P&C whose main focus is to support the school through special events and the canteen service. We all should also be impressed with the work of the Fundraising group as they have been able to raise a significant amount of money for our students. A special well done to our Canteen staff for providing amazing lunches to our school. Thank you to Mrs Sue Uyen and your team for your amazing effort this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Natalie Herridge who will be stepping down as P&C President. It is without doubt that her very strong leadership in this area has ensured the support of parents across the school for both the P&C and canteen. Mrs Herridge has worked tirelessly over her years to develop a very effective P&C that works collaboratively with the school.

Parent Link Program

This is a program that assists with classroom communication enabling parents to keep in contact with what is happening across the school. It also puts parents of classes in touch with each other. The program improves communication and is manned by a number of very dedicated parent volunteers from each classroom. I would like to thank not only the volunteers but also Mrs Mel Knight and Mrs Michelle Santoro for leading this project in 2021. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Mrs Knight all the very best and to thank her for her leadership in developing the program back in 2019 and continuing to drive it over the last few years. It is this hard work in working with the school which will see the program continue in 2022 and beyond. We are thrilled to have Mrs Santoro and Mrs Nerissa Toh jointly manage the program next year.

Staff Leaving

As we approach the end of the year we have a number of staff who will be leaving us for a variety of reasons including retirements, new work opportunities and long service leave. We would like to thank all of the following staff members for their contribution to not only the school but also to our students and community. They will be sadly missed and we wish them well in their new ventures:

Week 4 Friday 4th March

Term 2

No School Development Days

Term 4

Week 2 Friday 21st October
Week 10 Friday 16th December (am)

Voluntary Contributions and Charges 2022

The School Board has endorsed the Voluntary Contributions and Charges for 2022. You have received information outlining the charges for 2022. The voluntary contributions are an integral part of funding additional programs in the school and we would encourage all parents to contribute as these funds are directed back to our students.

Composite Classes/Class Lists for 2022

Last year I produced an information sheet for parents detailing research behind the benefits of composite/split classes. This has been promoted in newsletters since the middle of Term 3 this year. It is inevitable that there will be a number of split classes next year as it will also be inevitable for your child be placed in a split class during their time in primary education. With this in mind please take the time to view this information through the following link:

Your child’s class placement will be texted to you before school commences next year. The text message will include a link which will give you access to your child’s class list. We anticipate that this will be on Friday 28th January 2022. This is different to previous years where class lists have been placed up around the school on the Friday before school starts. Many schools are now moving to this method which has received positive feedback from parents.

Kiss n Drive

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who have nominated to help support this very worthwhile program. The initiative helps keep our students safe when being pick up and dropped off at school. We would be thrilled if we had the continued support next year.

If you have the time I encourage you to be involved in this program, especially if you are unable to volunteer for other events due to other commitments.

A very special thank you to Mrs Darshana Kika for coordinating the program in 2021 as part of the Roadwise initiative.

Information on how you can be involved please make contact through: lpspandcroadwise@gmail.com.

Kind regards,

Josh Jashari
Principal

1-1 Program 2022

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent Information forums or contacted us for information in the lead up to our 2022 1-1 Parent funded Device program. Parents have been supportive of their child’s educational needs and understood the importance of learning to use technology effectively and safely.

We are very committed to providing the best educational opportunities for our students and the 1-1 program is an important part of that. We thank the parents who do partner with us to help ensure we can provide full coverage of devices for all our students. We have managed each year to have a high percentage of students bringing their own device and this enables us to supply either a MacBook or iPad for students who for any reason don’t bring a personal device. However, we are aware that it is a big commitment from parents and that some may wish to wait and assess the program prior to purchasing or may not be able to participate in purchasing a device.

Please keep in mind:

  • Parents can choose an iPad or a MacBook if they wish to purchase a device.
  • There is no expectation that all parents will purchase a device, it is a voluntary program.
  • If a student does not bring their own device, one will be provided to them, assigned for the year. The only difference is that these are unable to go home with the student.
  • The Portal is available for you to access pricing and device specifications information and order your device at any time during the year, each year, so you can join at any point during your child’s Year 4-6 journey should you choose to.

We partner with Winthrop Australia to obtain the best educational prices and onsite technical support. They provide a convenient and easy online portal for you to order a device for your child. You are welcome to source a device elsewhere, however I encourage you to consider the portal information to compare accurately. Visit the Winthrop Portal for more information.

If you would like more information please visit our website for 1-1 Program news and FAQ or contact the school.

Early in 2022, we will offer workshops to help you with the basics of using a MacBook or iPad.

Art News …. With Miss Gandy

Our mural is complete!

Artist Paul Deej returned to Landsdale Primary School to add the finishing touches and what an amazing job he has done!

Students were able to watch an artist at work and see how art can change during the creating process. Thank you Paul!

The mural represents the native birds that visit our school and inhabit the surrounding parks and bushland. There are chalkboard bubbles on the mural to encourage learning experiences where students can practice drawing the birds or perhaps write down names of the birds. From all the positive feedback, I am sure the mural will be admired and appreciated for years to come.

I would like to thank Bunnings Warehouse in Wangara for their advice and help with the materials we needed and cutting the boards. Also thank you to our groundsman, Tyson, for installing the mural.

What an amazing opportunity it has been to work together to create a beautiful piece of art for our school!
