Health & Physical Education

Landsdale Primary School

Health

The health curriculum is taught in each classroom following the specific content as outlined by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCASA). Through Health and Physical Education, students learn how to enhance their health, safety and wellbeing and to contribute to building healthy, safe and active communities. It provides opportunities for students to develop skills, self-efficacy and dispositions to advocate for, and positively influence, their own and others' health and wellbeing. Each year level collaborates when planning health and completes common assessment tasks each term.

Physical Education

During weekly physical education lessons, junior primary students (Kindy to Year 2) develop their fundamental movement skills through a range of activities focused on participation and enjoyment. These skills help develop confidence in being active and the ability to participate in different physical activities according to their interests.

The middle and senior primary (Year 3-6) students work through a ‘Play Practice’ approach, which is a game-based model for teaching sport. This format helps students learn the appropriate skills and tactics for effective participation in a variety of different sports.

At Landsdale Primary School there are ample opportunities for students to access specialised in-school coaching across a range of different sports including golf, modcrosse, netball, AFL, cricket, tennis and rugby. We also have a before-school ‘Running Club’ every Monday as well as extracurricular tennis lessons provided by Sorrento Tennis Club.

One of the strongest programs in the physical education field at Landsdale Primary School is the extension program for high achieving students in the senior years. Selected students receive up to 90 extra minutes of sport practice per week in basketball, netball, soccer, rugby league tag, cricket, handball, athletics and futsal. In addition, all year 3-6 students participate in middle & senior sport year-round which gives them further opportunities to develop their skills in semi-competitive team environments.
